The questions that actually matter when comparing courier partners for your business — pincode coverage, COD remittance speed, NDR handling, and what to check before you commit.
Most comparisons between courier companies focus on price per shipment, which is the wrong starting point. Price differences between courier partners are usually small once you account for weight slabs and zones — the decisions that actually affect your business are about coverage, cash flow, and how failures get handled. Start with pincode coverage, specifically for your actual customer base, not a national "we deliver everywhere" claim. Check whether your top 20-30 delivery pincodes are genuinely served by that courier's own network versus outsourced to a third party for those areas — service quality and delivery timelines both tend to drop on outsourced legs. Use a serviceability checker before committing rather than after your first batch of shipments starts failing. Next, look at COD remittance cycle if COD is a meaningful share of your orders. A courier that remits in 24-48 hours versus one that batches weekly makes a real difference to working capital, especially for sellers reinvesting COD cash into inventory. Ask specifically, not generally — "what's your COD remittance cycle" gets a clearer answer than "how fast do you pay out." Then look at how NDR and RTO are actually handled, not just promised. Does the courier attempt a customer callback before marking a shipment as a failed delivery? How many delivery attempts happen before a shipment is returned? Is that visible to you in real time, or do you only find out when the return arrives at your warehouse? This is where most of the real difference between courier partners shows up, and it's the hardest thing to evaluate from a sales pitch alone. Finally, check integration effort. If you're selling through Shopify, WooCommerce, or a marketplace, ask whether the courier has direct API integration or manifest upload, and how bookings actually get created — manually per order, in bulk, or automatically from your store. A courier partner that requires manual booking for every order doesn't scale past a certain order volume. IndiaKart Express covers all four of these directly: pincode-level serviceability you can check before booking, 24-48 hour COD remittance, real-time NDR/RTO visibility per shipment, and API or bulk booking integration for ecommerce sellers.
